In Honor of Luke Spano Challen

I have registered to participate in the 2023 Run of Hope Seattle on Sunday, September 24th.  Please join us at Seward Park at 10am. 100% of your donation will be sent to Seattle Children's Hospital to fund pediatric cancer research.

In honor of our son, Luke Spano Challen who passed away on June 24th, 2012, from an Anaplastic Ependymoma Brain Tumor.  Luke courageously battled this brain tumor from the time that he was 2 years old, until he was 4 years old.  In his short life he captured the hearts of many.  His smile, the sparkle in his eye, his deep love for his family and pets, and all those that came into his life.  Luke, in spite of all he endured showed us every day what a gift the simple moments in life really are.  I can still hear his words, "love them," and feel his hug around my neck.  He would tell me, "Any day, any time, mama loves me!"  I sure did.  Luke showed us the depth of human love and taught me how to keep going when I thought I couldn't.  He showed me the beauty in life, how to appreciate the small moments, and see the best in others.  He brought out the best in me!  I am a better human being, because Luke taught me that no matter what you face in your life, there is always the gift of love.  Luke was an inspiring little boy who has left a lasting legacy.  When I think of my hero in life, I just have to think of Luke.  I was honored to be his mom, and I am honored to continue to share his story.  There was no coincidence that we were chosen to be Luke's family, the love that we learned from him, we now carry with us, and allows us to share him with all of you!

It has now been 11 years since Luke passed away, but to us feels like yesterday.  We have learned to live in present life, but in no way does the hurt and pain go away.  My family has adapted to having to live without Luke.  Although he is physically not here, in our hearts, mind, souls and deep within us, he is present.  Run Of Hope allows us to carry on Luke's legacy.  To me, it is my lifeline!  Losing a child is the most difficult thing I have ever faced, and I dedicate my life to sharing Luke with all of you.  Run of Hope allows families to share their child's story while raising money for pediatric cancer.  No family should ever face their child battling cancer, and it is up to all of us, to stand up and raise money to eradicate this devastating disease.

Thank you for considering a donation and supporting my son Luke Spano Challen and all children affected by pediatric cancer.
