frequently asked questions

  • Where does the money go after it is raised and collected through this event?

The proceeds from the Run of Hope will be used to fund groundbreaking research for children with brain tumors and brain cancer here at Seattle Children's Hospital. The research team here is one of the best in the country at finding new treatments and protocols to help increase survival rates for our children.

  • You say 100% of my registration fee/donation goes to research, yet I notice a processing fee is taken as a percentage of my transaction.  Can you please explain?

As an all-volunteer organized event, we do not have the resources to create proprietary online registration/donation software. Therefore, we utilize a third party program to handle the processing of all registration fees and donations. Our online registration and fundraising provider, FirstGiving, takes a small percentage of your registration fee and/or donation as a processing fee. However, our generous corporate sponsors offset those fees in their entirety to ensure your effective contribution to Seattle Children's Hospital for brain tumor research is 100%.

  • Are there prizes for winning the race, or raising the most money?

Yes, we have wonderful prizes for the top fundraising individuals, along with prizes for the actual race winners. Please visit our Prizes page for more information.

  • How much is the entry fee?

Online registration is $35 in advance, $40 day of race.

  • Will timing chips be used for the 5K run?

The course is a USATF Certified and the event will be timed using chip technology. The timing chips must be returned at the finish line after you have completed the race.

  • Are dogs, strollers and baby joggers allowed in any of the events?

Dogs are welcome anytime on a leash and park rules apply. Jogger-style strollers are welcome in both the 5k race and 3k walk. We will ask that those with strollers wait for single runners to cross the start line first for safety purposes.

  • How do I start fundraising for the run of hope?

When you register, you can set up your own fundraising page. It can have your own picture, tribute and story. Once you set up your webpage, you are ready to raise money!

  • How can I solicit donations?

Email, call or write to friends and family, and direct them to your personal webpage. They can make a donation directly online.  Those wanting to make a contribution, can click the “Donate” button on our homepage. You can then choose to “Donate to a Participant.”  Once you are redirected to our FirstGiving site, they may search for your fundraising page.
